# How Rainbrand works

> Develop brand context that agents and applications can use and update.

Rainbrand develops brand context from the sources that define your brand. A website builder, a presentation tool, and a campaign agent can work from the same brand guidance without reconstructing it for every task.

## Choose your sources

Start with whatever defines your brand: a website, public Instagram account, brand guide, logos, images, and more. One source may be enough, or you can combine several. Explain which material is current or approved and what guidance the brand needs, such as how to write product descriptions or choose imagery.

Rainbrand uses those sources to develop the brand's identity and guidance. See [Create a brand](https://docs.rainbrand.com/guides/create-brand.md) for the API and MCP steps.

## Use the context for your task

For a specific branded task, request a [Brief](https://docs.rainbrand.com/guides/request-brief.md). Rainbrand selects the guidance and assets relevant to what you are making. The connected agent or application reads the Brief and uses it alongside your task instructions to create the work.

For a general overview or a particular file, an MCP-connected agent can use `get_brand` and `view_files`.

The **Brand Skill** is the complete, versioned representation of that context, structured for agents: a profile, written guidance, and asset references. An application that needs a complete immutable snapshot can [retrieve it through the API](https://docs.rainbrand.com/guides/use-brand-skill.md), or [export a portable ZIP](https://docs.rainbrand.com/guides/export-brand-skill.md). [Explore an example](https://docs.rainbrand.com/explore-brand-skill.md) to see the format.

The connected system applies the context to its work and owns the surrounding layout, rendering, and publishing workflow. When using a selected model through the [AI Gateway](https://docs.rainbrand.com/mcp/tools.md#model-discovery-and-generation), the caller includes the relevant guidance and references in the model request.

For image work that needs a production quality check, request a [Review](https://docs.rainbrand.com/guides/request-review.md) to assess one image against the brand's guidance and use the findings to refine it.

## Keep the context current

When the brand changes, provide new sources or describe what should change. You can also specify exact values, such as a logo, palette, or font.

Rainbrand prepares the proposed changes for inspection. You can refine them before applying the edit. Once applied, the updated guidance is available for later work through either API or MCP. See [Edit a brand](https://docs.rainbrand.com/guides/edit-brand.md).
